Ivan Dodig hailed his victory over Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Rogers Cup as “the biggest win” of his career. Rafael Nadal, who is 5/2 with bet365 to win the US Open, had seemed on course to record a routine victory at the Montreal Masters after taking the first set 6-1. However, Ivan Dodig, currently world number 41 in the mens singles rankings, rallied to win the next two sets on the tie-break. The 26-year Croatian said
“This is the biggest win of my career, of my life, I enjoyed it so much. I was fighting hard for every point. In the end I managed, I’m really happy.”
Rafael Nadal admitted he had simply been outplayed by his opponent Ivan Dodig. “Honestly, I didn’t feel I played bad but I can’t say I played well. In the decisive moments, I didn’t play well, that’s the truth,” said the Spaniard. “He played very well, very aggressive. He didn’t feel the pressure in the important moments.”
